Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Newtown police station made a significant breakthrough by arresting two individuals involved in a rental fraud scheme, in collaboration with a fake lawyer.
The fraudsters had been deceiving innocent people by advertising fake flats for rent on various websites. The arrested culprits were identified as Rohit Kumar Anuragi and Rohit Roy (posing as a fake lawyer), both residents of Hooghly.
The cunning modus operandi of the gang involved enticing potential tenants with attractive rental offers. Once victims showed interest, they would be shown a seemingly genuine flat, tailored to their preferences. To seal the deal, the gang would provide false keys and fraudulent agreements prepared by their fake lawyer accomplice.
The police's investigation revealed the extent of the gang's operation, spreading its reach across different parts of the city. Countless complaints about the fraudulent rental ads had been received by the Newtown police station, prompting them to conduct a thorough probe into the matter.
